To celebrate Veterans Day, Castro Valley Air Force aviator veteran turned aviation children’s book author Graciela Tiscareño-Sato (aka Captain Mama) visited Palomares Elementary School for a Veterans Day assembly. All students were given a copy of the first book in her series, “Good Night, Captain Mama / Buenas Noches, Capitán Mamá.” In the book, a young boy named Marco learns why his mother wears a military flight suit and why she serves. It was inspired by a conversation with the author's son Kiyoshi when he was a student at Castro Valley Parent Nursery School and first saw her in her flight suit. The author said she was also inspired to write the bilingual book to remind Americans that women, mothers, and Latinas are veterans too.
