Castro Valley Library Volunteers Needed

2024 is right around the corner — a perfect time to make New Year’s resolutions. Why not make a resolution to give back to your community by volunteering at Castro Valley Library?

Many popular library programs that were paused by the pandemic are now  re-starting.  These fun and educational programs rely on volunteers, and offer opportunities to help in a variety of fields.  Training and support will be provided.

Background checks may be required. Except as noted below, please  call Chris Selig at (510) 667-7900 or e-mail cselig@aclibrary.org for more info.

Adult volunteers are welcomed for the following activities:  Sunday afternoon ‘casual conversation’  group leaders for adults learning English; resume and job search coaches (with background in human resources) to help folks find employment; tech-savvy individuals to provide one-on-one help  with phones, tablets and laptops during the Monday night Tech & Gadget program; and “Bookleggers” who visit classrooms to get students excited about reading.

For anyone interested in working one-on-one with youth or adults who want to improve their English and literacy, Learning Partners are tutors with patience, empathy and flexibility. Call (510) 745-1480 for information.

“Friends of the Castro Valley Library” raises money for the Library, and they’re always looking for volunteers for their book sales. Please visit their book store to the right of the Library lobby for more information.

Castro Valley Library also needs teen volunteers! High school students who would like to shelve books and help Library visitors find what they need are encouraged to call Nathan Silva at (510) 667-7900 or email nsilva@aclibrary.org.
