CV Community Continues to Come Together for Others
In addition to participating in “Donna’s Holiday Hope” (formerly “Adopt a Family”) Program through the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (chaired by CV Rotarian Dr. Heidi Hausauer), the Rotary Club of Castro Valley will once again be hosting their annual Children’s Christmas Party for kids and their parents from shelters for the abused and homeless.
The party is chaired by CV Rotarian Mark Poniatowski, but could not happen without the participation of many organizations coming together to benefit the less fortunate.
Packages were donated to the CHP Toy Drive and then were made available to the CV Rotary Children’s Party. The transfer of gifts was coordinated by CV Rotarian Ceta Dochterman and CHP Officer Jennifer Pabst, which were picked up and labeled appropriately and then the packages were taken to Redwood Christian High School so members of their student body, led by Assistant Principal Evan Barnhart, could wrap and reapply labels to the packages! The students wrapped more than ninety packages and are ready for names to be applied prior to the children receiving them from Santa Claus at the Castro Valley Adult School.
RCHS Assistant Principal Dr. Evan Barnhart looks forward to this event every year, stating “members of our high school student body once again displayed a heart for others by wrapping gifts for kids in the community - these students continually impress me by their willingness to sacrifice their time for the sake of others.”
The Rotary Club of Castro Valley’s Children’s Christmas Party is truly another example of the Castro Valley Community coming together to serve others.
