CV Rotary Continues Lions Club ‘Restaurant Walk’ Tradition
On September 21, the Rotary Club of Castro Valley continued the “Restaurant Walk,” which was started by the Castro Valley Lions Club more than two decades ago. When the Castro Valley Lions Club was discontinued, Rotary Club members’ Chris Carr and Aaron Lewis became co-chairs to continue the vision and good work of Lions Club members’ Joe Farias and Michael Abel, who planned and managed this event for many years. This year would have been 25 years, if not for COVID.
The theme President Dwight Perry chose for the 2021-22 CV Rotary this year is “to have FUN and support the community!” President Perry stated “I am so proud of Chris Carr and Aaron Lewis for chairing our first fund raiser of the 2021-22 Rotary year. The entire Club got behind the Restaurant Walk and it was a great success!”
Nearly 250 people turned out, and the Village and Marketplace were packed. The participants purchased tickets that entitled them to visit several local restaurants, whose generosity and commitment to Castro Valley made this event possible: Don Jose’s Restaurant, Shari’s Pies, Cannery Kitchen & Tap, Cordial Cellar and Lounge, Farmcurious, Amphora Nueva, Mr. Pickles, MOD Pizza, Aroma Cuisine of India, Knudsen’s Ice Creamery, Rigatoni’s, Portales Taqueria, See’s Candies, Vitality Bowls, Starbucks, and Jenn’s Cupcakes & Keller Williams Castro Valley.
Because of the generosity of the restaurants who donated the food, this year’s Restaurant Walk raised approximately $5000.
Co-Chairs Carr and Lewis are so thankful for “the Castro Valley Rotarians for their volunteer efforts in staffing the restaurants to help offset the crowds that participated. We are already planning and anticipating how to include and promote even more restaurants at next year’s Restaurant Walk 2022.”
Profits from the Restaurant Walk will be used locally to fund the needs of the Castro Valley Community through the Rotary Club of Castro Valley Community Grants Program (see www.castrovalleyrotary.org/grants for information).
The Rotary Club of Castro Valley is currently providing hybrid meetings with both in-person luncheons at Redwood Canyon and online on most Tuesdays at 12:00 p.m. Speakers and links to the meetings are posted at www.castrovalleyrotary.org under Upcoming Events. The Club welcomes individuals who want to make a positive impact locally, nationally, and internationally.
