Embracing Change - Year-End Review Event

As I was preparing to write this article, I realized that this would be my last article of 2023. So, the next time you hear from me, it will be 2024. As I was reflecting on that point, I felt like things had been shifting for me in the last couple of months. It feels like we’re heading towards something different. I’m not sure how or what, but I know something is changing.

It could be related to how I’ve been focusing on building my team for my behavior business. I’m much less involved in the day-to-day operations, so my schedule looks different. It could also be related to all the holiday parties and networking events I’ve attended this year. The Castro Valley/Eden Area Chamber of Commerce has hosted some amazing mixers every month, allowing me to meet all kinds of great people. It could also be my focus on meditation, and I feel more connected to myself. I think it’s also seeing my son grow up in front of my eyes. He started preschool this year, and I remember how worried my wife and I were about how he would transition. We stood by the door and waited for about 15 minutes before leaving on his first day because he was crying. Now, when I drop him off, he doesn’t even say bye to me. Ungrateful little… I mean, it’s so great seeing him grow up! When all of those variables come together, I can’t help but feel like things are shifting, and that’s not always a comfortable feeling.

At a recent event, someone reminded me that the only constant in life is change. If that’s true, wouldn’t it be a good idea to learn how to embrace change and appreciate it? Wouldn’t it be beneficial to learn to be more flexible and roll with the punches?

This year has been… a year. I don’t like focusing on negative things that happened, but it’s important to recognize that they have happened. Otherwise, we’re delusional. I think what’s more important, though, is that if you’re reading this, you survived. That in and of itself is worth celebrating. You made it! You can keep on keeping on and make 2024 a better year (even if you had a good year).

One way I’ve found has helped me embrace change is to look at my path. It gives me great guidance in terms of where I can go. I’ve prepared a few questions for just that:

What made me proud?

What did I learn?

Who did I lead?

What held me back?

I only have enough space to cover these questions in this article. The next step would be to look at the present and then the future. If you want to go deeper and set up your 2024, I invite you to join me on Wednesday, December 27, at the Castro Valley Marketplace for a goal-setting workshop from 9 am to 1 pm. The cost is $25 to cover the delicious food that will be from the vendors in the marketplace. You can sign up here: https://kevin-koo-coaching.ck.page/84410c5fc2. During that session, we’ll consider the Now questions, as well as the Future questions, evaluate all aspects of your life, identify your values, and then dive into what goals you want to set for 2024.
