Soroptimists Give “Dream” Awards

In keeping with our Soroptimist mission statement/who we are: Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.

At their business meeting on April 20, at JP Restaurant in Castro Valley, the Soroptimists International of the East Bay club celebrated four deserving women:

To our first winner - Alexsandra Rivera - $2000 to help keep our recipient on track to "Live her Dream" towards education that will lead to economic empowerment.

To our tied second winners - Alexa Navarro and Maria Torres - $1000 to "Live their Dreams" and pursue education leading to ecomonic empowerment.

Also awarded - Our Violet Richardson awardee - Andrea N. Martinez - $500 to celebrate her success in community volunteerism.

Soroptimist "Dream" programs help women with access to education and training to achieve economic empowerment and live their dreams.

Our surprise guests were from the Alameda County Sheriff's Department - who have been supporting Maria-Elena in her efforts to get an education and improve her/her family's life.

Of note: A generous $2000 contribution from the Optimist Club of San Leandro enabled us to double our awards - thank you Optimists of San Leandro!
