Motor Sergeant B. Martinez and Commander C. Lucia, son of Undersheriff Lucia, arrived to escort him on his final day of service.

After 53 years in Alameda County law enforcement, Undersheriff Richard Lucia officially retired last month. Sheriff Yesenia Sanchez, members of her executive management team, staff, and friends greeted Undersheriff Lucia and his family with applause and a farewell salute upon his arrival at the Alameda County Office of Emergency Services just before Christmas. Undersheriff Lucia's son, Division Commander Christopher Lucia, presented him with a Sheriff’s Proclamation signed by Sheriff Sanchez to memorialize his career.

Lucia began his career as a deputy sheriff at the Alameda County Sheriff's Office (ACSO) in 1995. During his 28 years with the ACSO, Undersheriff Lucia served in various capacities, including Division Commander and Assistant Sheriff. He was appointed undersheriff in 2006. Prior to serving in the Sheriff’s Office, Lucia was a captain with the Hayward Police Department.

“As we bid him farewell from his official duties, I cannot help but express my immense gratitude for his unwavering guidance and steadfast support throughout this transitional period. His legacy of commitment to our agency has been instrumental in our growth and numerous achievements over the years,” Sheriff Sanchez said.
