Amazon Driver Backs into Kid, Drives Off
Monday, October 21: At 7:15 a.m., an Amazon driver is under investigation following a hit-and-run incident at the intersection of Somerset Avenue and Santa Maria Avenue. Video surveillance footage shows the driver delivering a package at a residence and then backing out his Toyota RAV4 before colliding into a 14-year-old boy on his bicycle. The boy shouted out, but the driver did not get out of the vehicle and continued to drive off. The boy sustained minor injuries. The front wheel of the bicycle was damaged. CHP officer Kylie Musselman said the department submitted the required documents to Amazon on Friday and are waiting for a response from the company.
Wanted for Identity Theft
Monday, October 21: At 3:45 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 38-year-old man from Castro Valley as part of a warrant issued for his capture. The man had been previously convicted of obtaining and using false identification for purchases and transactions and identity fraud. Deputies stopped the man to serve the warrant outside a business on East Castro Valley Boulevard in the 580 Market Place shopping center. The man was additionally charged at the scene for possessing false identification, attempted fraud, and illegal drug paraphernalia. The man was taken to Santa Rita Jail.
Shoplifter Arrested
Wednesday, October 23: At 2:00 p.m., a 62-year-old man from Castro Valley was arrested on suspicion of shoplifting from a business. Deputies stopped the man at the intersection of Castro Valley Boulevard and Wisteria Street and found the unpaid merchandise in his possession. The man was taken into custody.
Two Busted for Illegal Guns and Stolen Vehicles
Friday, October 25: At 3:51 p.m., deputies arrested two women for shoplifting and found they had outstanding warrants for possessing stolen vehicles and firearms. The 30-year-old and 29-year-old women were stopped for shoplifting outside a drug store on Castro Valley Boulevard near Yeandle Avenue. Deputies found the pair had outstanding warrants. The women resisted arrest but were eventually taken to Santa Rita Jail.
Family Fight
Saturday, October 26: At 1:16 p.m., a 9-1-1 call about a loud and aggressive-sounding argument sent deputies to an apartment on Center Street near Grove Way. There, they arrested a 43-year-old woman from Castro Valley on suspicion of assault on a family member. Deputies took the woman into custody. The victim was treated at the scene.
