Experience Matters More Than Ever - Re-elect Miley!
In the shadow of Valentine’s Day, sending kudos to our Municipal Advisory Committee for their tireless efforts in keeping watch over all that is Castro Valley. Many residents may not be aware that the dedicated members of the MAC from diverse backgrounds and perspectives spend many hours in advance of MAC public meetings. Let me point out some of the things that I’ve learned about our MAC Board:
• They study and review plans and documents supplied by Alameda County. Some members make personal trips to various sites being considered for development. Their diligence and attention to reports from county and federal agencies from EBMUD to USPS keeps the focus on what is safe and practical for the citizens of our community.
• They inform the process of Economic and Civic Development for Beatification of our town (new signage for businesses and landmarks, aerial banners, and other forms of community identity.)
• They review plans for building business development capacity and public/private partnerships to create a more vibrant and attractive Castro Valley.
• They make Land Use Recommendations that consider traffic issues, access, proper notification of residents, and review all development plans for safety elements.
• They’ve examined AC Transit’s Post Pandemic Bus Network and the county’s Environmental Justice Climate Action Plan.
• They work closely with Code Enforcement to reduce dumping, building violations, and sidewalk disruption due to blight.
• Recently they heard public comments on the concerns of mobile home residents who have had their rents markedly increased.
The hours spent on considering and advising on these issues reflects an investment in the quality of life here and I commend each member for their time and efforts. MAC members are appointed by county supervisors. So, if you appreciate the work of our current MAC, and for continuity, shared history, and their continued tenure, please consider re-electing Supervisor Nate Miley.
