It is Critical We Re-Elect Nate Miley
I want to thank the Forum for helping to put together the candidate forum on January 20th showcasing Supervisor Miley and Jennifer Esteen. I appreciate the professionalism and civility of the event, which is all too often lacking in modern politics.
What struck me throughout this forum was that while Esteen showed insight into health issues, which is her profession, she exposed blind spots in many important areas. For example, she seemed unaware that the crime issues in the Hegenberger corridor are the responsibility of the City of Oakland, not Alameda County.
Similarly, Esteen seemed unaware that the problems at the jail are the responsibility of the Sheriff, whom we voters elect, not the County Board of Supervisors.
I can only imagine what she does not know about complicated governmental operations, whether the budget with its myriad funding sources, coordinated regional responsibilities, or even working with the County Administrator’s Office for efficient operations.
At this juncture, where all other four supervisors will be new, it is critical that we re-elect Nate Miley, the one person with proven knowledge and ability to keep our county running as smoothly as possible, and who can mentor the new supervisors with all of the knowledge and wisdom that he has gained over the years.
