Fortenberry Named Principal at CVHS
Castro Valley High School has a new principal. The District Board of Education last Wednesday selected Christopher Fortenberry to lead Trojans, replacing Blaine Torpey who stepped down earlier this month.
Fortenberry has more than 20 years of educational experience starting at James Logan High School in 2001. During his tenure at James Logan, he invested his time in various aspects of the school community supporting academics and athletics. He then ventured to CVHS in 2015 as a mathematics teacher. Since arriving, he led the CVHS Varsity Boys Basketball team as head coach, developing student-athletes in improving basketball skills. Fortenberry was promoted to assistant principal and supervised several departments to support teaching and learning, and student safety at CVHS. Fortenberry was honored as the recipient of the Administrator of the Year 2022 by the Association of California School Administrators Region 6.
He was also nominated as Athletic Director of the Year by North Coast Section, and Teacher of the Year for Curriculum Design. Fortenberry earned his Master of Arts in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from California State University, East Bay. In the last two years, Fortenberry acted as the Principal Designee, working closely with Principal Torpey to ensure a smooth transition.
“Mr. Fortenberry has been an integral part of our district’s leadership team, and he will continue to work closely with CVHS staff to ensure that students are provided high-quality learning opportunities in a safe and welcoming environment,” said Superintendent Parvin Ahmadi.
