Veteran Defends Flying Mexican Flag

Castro Valley resident Jim Grimes is defending his right to fly another country's flag despite an angry letter from an anonymous person. Grimes, who owns the Canyon Creek Ranch on Crow Canyon Road near Norris Canyon Road, often displays both the American and Mexican flags on the sign on his property. In a letter sent to him earlier this month, the missive accuses Grimes of being unpatriotic and an insult to "our gracious community." Grimes, who was born in Oklahoma in 1939, served in the U.S.Eighth Air Force (Air Forces Strategic Air Command) with Top Secret clearance. He says he flies both flags as a tribute to his best friend and his grandchildren, some of who are of Mexican descent.
