CVHS JV Girls Water Polo Team
Our Athletes of the Week are the Castro Valley High School JV Girls water polo team. They successfully defended their Western Alameda County Conference title on October 20 and 21 at the annual JV Championship Tournament held at Encinal High School. Under the guidance of first-year coach Logan Cherry, the Trojans defeated the Alameda Hornets 7-3 and the Bishop O’Dowd Dragons 13-2 en route to the title match against the Lick Wilmerding Tigers. The Trojan ladies broke a 6-6 tie early in the third period with a run of four back-to-back goals from their co-captain, Marissa Driver, and never looked back, ultimately prevailing with a final score of 13-8. The Trojans’ potent offense was led by freshman Hannah Dias and sophomore Driver, with 11 and 10 goals scored, respectively, over their three-game tournament. The experienced play of senior Katilyn Diep was highlighted by her team-high of 6 assists and 16 steals. First-year goalkeeper Caroline Kiely notched six saves and one assist in the title match. The team finished their season with an impressive 21-3 record, going 5-1 in their league for the regular season.
