CVHS Varsity Football Team
Our Athletes of the Week are the Castro Valley High School Varsity Football Team. The Trojans unfortunately lost their season opener 61-34 in a non-league game to the Carlmont High School Scots. Castro Valley showed great promise behind Senior quarterback Diego Mares, who took the team downfield several times to score 27 points in the first half alone. It was not enough to keep the Scots at bay, as Carlmont High School scored 34 by the end of the Second Quarter. After the half, Carlmont put up 27 more unanswered points to lead 61-27 with less than 6 minutes left in the game. Castro Valley did end up on a drive that was capped off with a 3-yard run by Connor Cooper and a point-after attempt by Adrian Guzman. It was the season's first game for new head coach John Trotman Jr.
