Our Athletes of the week are our very own, Dakine Hoops, based out of CV. This AAU basketball team consisting of students from Castro Valley High School brought home the 2022 Coca-Cola Nationals Championship in Los Angeles last month. According to starter Kyle Ignacio, "Dakine had troubling games but had an almost perfect record of 4-1. The first game in the tournament proved to be the most challenging, as Dakine Hoops struggled to score in their only loss. However, Dakine Hoops started to heat up while winning their next three games. In the championship game, the boys had a rematch from the team in the first game.  Dakine showed up ready for revenge, with Ekam Sandhu leading the pack scoring 17 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists, 7 blocks, and 5 steals, with Jonathan Lin providing the extra firepower with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 blocks. The win in the final game ended their opponent's 4-game win streak and brought home the tournament championship.
