A car fire on the west side of Interstate 580 Monday afternoon sparked a fast-spreading grass fire that scorched 58 acres and threatened homes near Schaeffer Ranch Road. Firefighters from Alameda County Fire, Livermore-Pleasanton Fire, and CalFire helped contain the blaze around 5:30 p.m. Parts of the neighborhood were evacuated as a precaution. Everyone returned home around 7:30, according to Alameda County Fire Department. No one was injured and no homes were damaged by the fire.
