Friends of the SL Library Spring Book Sale

A vast collection of signed first editions in the Collectible book section is one of the featured highlights at the Friends of San Leandro Library’s semi-annual Spring Book Sale on Saturday and Sunday, April 5th and 6th, at the Main Library, 300 Estudillo Avenue in San Leandro.  

On Saturday April 5th, the Friends of the Library’s Member Preview will be held from 9-11 a.m., then the sale is open to the public from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Sunday April 6th, the Friends’ very popular Bag Sale Day will run 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Friends of the San Leandro Library will host a Cookbook Sale on Saturday, December 7th (10:00 a.m. to 3 p.m.) at the San Leandro Main Library, 300 Estudillo Avenue, San Leandro. Hundreds of beautiful books featuring cuisines from around the world will be featured. From the basic how-to to elegant dining recipes, these books originally sold for as much as $50 but will be sale-priced for much less. It’s a great time to start your holiday shopping with quality cookbooks at bargain prices. All proceeds benefit the San Leandro Library’s programs and services. We now accept credit cards!

The 2024 Holiday Hafla is the perfect event to get into the festive spirit. Watch talented dancers weave holiday-themed magic on stage, showcasing a dazzling array of belly dance styles. This in-person event promises to be a night of joy, celebration, and plenty of hip-shaking fun! Don't miss out on this unforgettable holiday experience. Dahlia Tuber Sale

For spectacular summer color, it’s time to plant those dahlias!  The San Leandro Dahlia Society will hold its annual tuber and small plant sale on Saturday, May 4, 10 am- 1pm at the Milford Garden Improvement Clubhouse, 13055 Aurora Drive, San Leandro.  That’s across the street from Garfield Elementary School. Tubers will sell for $7 and cuttings, small plants will sell for $9, including tax.  Dahlia aficionados will be on hand to advise on planting and caring for the dahlias..  With so many varieties, there is something for everyone!!  Just no blue blooms. Enjoy!

San Leandro, CA - Davis Street, District 20’s 2023 California Nonprofit of the Year, is an organization dedicated to serving low-income families in the Eden area and surrounding communities, is thrilled to announce its Annual Community Health Fair, Saturday, August 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be held at 3081 Teagarden Street, San Leandro, CA, and promises to be a day filled with health education, community engagement, and fun activities for all. 

This highly anticipated health fair is open to the public and completely free of charge. It aims to bring together community members, healthcare providers, and local organizations to promote wellness, provide essential resources, and celebrate the spirit of unity.

Our Annual Community Health Fair will feature a plethora of attractions, ensuring a memorable experience for attendees of all ages.

Highlights of the event include:

  • More than 20 Community Resource Booths: Local organizations and service providers will showcase their offerings, providing valuable information and support to attendees.

  • Free Produce Giveaway: Visitors will receive free fresh produce, encouraging healthy eating habits and supporting local farmers.

  • Health Education Booths: Knowledgeable experts will be on hand to address health-related concerns and offer insights into maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

  • Complimentary Blood Pressure Checks: Davis Street recognizes the importance of proactive health management, and attendees can take advantage of free blood pressure checks to monitor their well-being.

  • Raffle and Games: Engaging activities will add an element of excitement to the fair, giving attendees the chance to win fantastic prizes while having fun.

  • Children's Activity Area and Face Painting: A dedicated space for children's entertainment will include engaging activities and delightful face painting, ensuring a joyful experience for young attendees.

  • Complimentary Lunch: Adding a vibrant touch to the fair, attendees can enjoy a delicious complimentary lunch courtesy of Alameda County Firefighters Association, Local 55.

Guided watershed walk

Join EBMUD's Ranger Naturalists on a guided watershed walk at Miller Road from Chabot Staging Area to the Upper San Leandro Dam. This unique event takes place on Saturday, October 8, from 7:30 am to 12 pm. The first mile will be a guided talk, hikers are welcome to complete the 6-mile roundtrip to the Upper San Leandro Dam independently. Hike is rated moderate.

This one-time opportunity to enjoy the site is available to the first 30 registrants. Don't forget to bring your hats, sunblock, and water. Cell service is limited, please print proof of registration or take a photo to check in. Check-in starts at 7:30 am and the walk begins promptly at 8 am. Parking is limited, consider carpooling.

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a Crime Prevention Open house & BBQ on Saturday, August 27 from 11 am to 3 pm at the Ashland Community Center located at 1530 167th Avenue, San Leandro. ‘First Friday’ block party in San Leandro

The Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro are joining Drake’s Brewing for a First Friday charitable block party on Friday, July 1, 2022, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Drake’s San Leandro Barrel House. The Club invites the community to join them for beer, food, music, and games.

This is a family-friendly night of fun! Purchases made during the July 1 First Friday event will count more towards our goal, so be sure to come down! Please support the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro by purchasing a growler or crowler during the event or ANYTIME during the month of July, and part of your purchase will go directly to the Boys & Girls Clubs of San Leandro. Purchases count all month long!

The event is FREE and open to the public. Well-behaved dogs and children are welcome! Come on down to Drake’s Barrel House in San Leandro, bring your friends and family, and visit with the Boys & Girls Club staff!
