Kid Gardener: Plants

Youth and their families are invited to join Compost Gal Lori Caldwell to learn about different types of plants, how plants make their own food, and their role in the ecosystem. There is a take home project for this class. Your child may get dirty. Please plan accordingly. Best suited for ages 5-13.

Eden Garden Club Meeting

The next meeting of Eden Garden Club will be Monday April 22, 9:30 am at the Castro Valley United Methodist Church 19806 Wisteria Street in Castro Valley.  The speaker will be Carol Dixon with a review on Monarch Butterflies and a talk about  Yellow Swallow Tails.  Carol has an MA in Biological Science from USC Hayward, an  instructor of Biology and ecology at Chabot and Ohlone Colleges for 22 years, then 16 years at Castro Valley High School.  Explore how gardeners can help with the migration and survival of butterflies. Gardening Series: Learning to Graft

GARDENING SERIES: LEARNING TO GRAFT AND SCION EXCHANGE 

at Castro Valley Library 

SATURDAY, JANUARY 27

Join ForestR.org for a demonstration of grafting. Grafting is the process of joining two plants into one. Learn of the many reasons to graft plants including the development of hardy and reliable plants, developing new varieties, and creating dwarf specimens. The demonstration will be followed with a scion exchange.

Join CompostGal Lori Caldwell for another exciting learning opportunity. One of the many benefits of our climate is being able to garden year-round! Fall/Winter is still a great time to garden. This class will go over some great techniques on how to transition to your fall garden: cool-weather edible crops, starting seeds, crop rotation, sheet mulching and planting natives.

Gardening Series: Prepping Your Garden for Spring

It's not too soon to start thinking about your spring and summer gardens! Join Compost Gal Lori Caldwell to learn about topics such as seeds vs. starts, crop rotation, building healthy soil, great crops for spring and transitioning from your fall garden will be covered. Lori will also cover the basics for a successful first-time gardener including deciphering the terminology, plants 101, healthy soil building, transplanting and plant choices by season, non-toxic pest control and reuse in the garden.
