Herbal Series: Immune System and Fire Cider

HERBAL SERIES: IMMUNE SYSTEM AND FIRE CIDER

Join us for an overview of the immune system, and herbal support techniques for maintaining a healthy, functioning immune system. We'll discuss how the immune system functions, herbs and practices for a healthy immune system, and simple at-home remedies for cold and flu support. We'll end the class with a fire cider demo and explanation of this medicinal, immune-supporting preparation you can easily make at home. This is the second in a series of three.

An ASL (American Sign Language) interpreter or closed captioning can be provided for this program if requested at least seven business days in advance. For assistance, please contact your library or accessibility@aclibrary.org.

San Leandro, CA - Davis Street, District 20’s 2023 California Nonprofit of the Year, is an organization dedicated to serving low-income families in the Eden area and surrounding communities, is thrilled to announce its Annual Community Health Fair, Saturday, August 12, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be held at 3081 Teagarden Street, San Leandro, CA, and promises to be a day filled with health education, community engagement, and fun activities for all. 

This highly anticipated health fair is open to the public and completely free of charge. It aims to bring together community members, healthcare providers, and local organizations to promote wellness, provide essential resources, and celebrate the spirit of unity.

Our Annual Community Health Fair will feature a plethora of attractions, ensuring a memorable experience for attendees of all ages.

Highlights of the event include:

  • More than 20 Community Resource Booths: Local organizations and service providers will showcase their offerings, providing valuable information and support to attendees.

  • Free Produce Giveaway: Visitors will receive free fresh produce, encouraging healthy eating habits and supporting local farmers.

  • Health Education Booths: Knowledgeable experts will be on hand to address health-related concerns and offer insights into maintaining a balanced lifestyle.

  • Complimentary Blood Pressure Checks: Davis Street recognizes the importance of proactive health management, and attendees can take advantage of free blood pressure checks to monitor their well-being.

  • Raffle and Games: Engaging activities will add an element of excitement to the fair, giving attendees the chance to win fantastic prizes while having fun.

  • Children's Activity Area and Face Painting: A dedicated space for children's entertainment will include engaging activities and delightful face painting, ensuring a joyful experience for young attendees.

  • Complimentary Lunch: Adding a vibrant touch to the fair, attendees can enjoy a delicious complimentary lunch courtesy of Alameda County Firefighters Association, Local 55. 

Davis Street is proud to host this event, embodying its mission to improve the quality of life for residents of San Leandro, San Lorenzo, Castro Valley, Ashland, Cherryland, and the Eden area. Through their comprehensive safety net, which includes a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Primary Care Clinic, emergency food and clothing assistance, subsidized child care, housing and utility support, and seasonal programs like the Back 2 School Giveaway and the Holiday Basket Program, Davis Street has been a pillar of support for families in need.

ACSO Health and Wellness Fair

Please join the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday March 4, 2023, at the Hayward Adult School located at 22100 Princeton St, Hayward, CA 94541. Information will be provided by medical, dental, and mental health professionals to kick off a healthy 2023. Exercise demonstrations and upcoming fitness classes will be provided by the Crime Prevention Unit (CPU), our Deputy Sheriffs Activity League (DSAL) and the Hayward Area Recreation Department (HARD). Representatives from Dig Deep Food Hub will round out the event by providing information on healthy meal preparation along with a live cooking demonstration and information on urban farming.

HAHS Hosts Discussion on Black Health and Wellness

The Hayward Area Historical Society is hosting an online presentation focused on Black Health and Wellness during the pandemic. The event will take place on Sunday, February 27 at 3 pm. Dr. Michael LeNoir will ground the program with a talk concerning the history and culture of Black medicine, followed by a panel discussion led by Hayward City Councilmember Angela Andrews. Panelists include Fremont City Councilmember Teresa Cox, mental health professional Dr. William Spivey, and Alameda County Superintendent of Schools L.K. Monroe. This program is presented in partnership with the Women’s Ministry of Palma Ceia Baptist Church and the Eden Rose (CA) Chapter of The Links Incorporated. Affordable Health Screenings Coming to CV

Residents living in and around the Castro Valley can learn about their risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, diabetes, and other chronic, serious conditions with affordable screenings by Life Line Screening.  Hayward Castro Valley Moose Lodge 1491 will host this community event on January 19.  The site is located at 20835 Rutledge Road in Castro Valley.
