Computer Basics for Beginners Course

Castro Valley Adult & Career Education at 4430 Alma Ave is offering a free computer course for low-income residents of unincorporated Alameda County. Learn how to use a computer, email and the Internet. Practice online safety, word processing, video calls & more! Classes meet Monday, Wednesday and Friday, Wednesday, and Friday 9:30am to 12pm starting May 21. Space is limited. Call 510-886-1000 for registration information.

How to Download Library eBooks & Audiobooks

Stop by the Castro Valley Library Saturday, May 3 from 10:30am to 12:30pm to learn about the library’s eBook & eAudiobook collections! We will walk you through the process of downloading FREE library materials onto your phone or tablet. Participants are asked to bring their fully charged device, their library card and PIN, have their Apple ID credentials (for iPad/iPhone users), Google Play credentials (for Android users) or their Amazon credentials (for Kindle users), and have basic knowledge of how to use their device.

In our 24/7 high speed digital age it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by and mistrustful of all the information that flows your way. The ability to direct your attention and to find credible information sources are 21st Century super powers.

Join us as we learn how to:

  • evaluate the credibility of news stories and sources

  • distinguish types of information and their purposes

  • deliberately seek a wide range of credible information sources

Android Basics

Learn how to get the most of your Android smartphone in this hands-on class with California Connect. We’ll cover all the basics including the buttons, gestures, the basics of calling and texting, Google Assistant, managing your home screen, and the many accessibility options that make your device easier to use. Bring your Android smartphone and your Google ID and password.

Advance registration is required. Register online at www.aclibrary.org (click on Events) or call 510-667-7900. The Castro Valley Library is a branch of the Alameda County Library system. The Library is located at 3600 Norbridge Avenue, Castro Valley, and is wheelchair accessible.
