Voting is Tricky
Voting is tricky! I like to check who are the backers and opponents of each proposition, candidate, or measure. Some contributors are shown in the newsprint voters guide. Or check online at www.vote411.org.
Don’t vote for candidates who accept money from groups they will have financial power over if elected, like a County Supervisor taking money from landlords, real estate interests, and law enforcement associations. For instance, in the Alameda County District 4 Supervisor race, only Jennifer Esteen refuses money from corporations and law enforcement groups, while the incumbent Nate Miley has accepted special interest money for over 20 years.
A “taxpayers association” will oppose any bond. But a bond is like a home mortgage: it’s for something you need now, but will pay for over time.
Anyone who tells you your vote doesn’t count, doesn’t want you to vote.
