Foul Play Suspected in Redwood Road Death

The Alameda County Sheriff’s Department is asking for the public’s help in finding out what happened to a man whose body was found along Redwood Road north of Lake Chabot in the early afternoon of Labor Day, this past Monday.

Foul play is suspected, according to Sheriff’s department spokesman Sgt. Ray Kelly, and it’s likely somebody, or several somebodies, saw something.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office is hoping someone driving this stretch of Redwood Road on September 6 between 12 noon and 2:30 pm can help them solve a homicide.

The Alameda County Sheriff's Office is hoping someone driving this stretch of Redwood Road on September 6 between 12 noon and 2:30 pm can help them solve a homicide.

A motorist called in a body near milepost 2.95 about 2:30 p.m., and Kelly said the body had likely just been left at the time. His department believes the man was killed elsewhere and his body left along the road.

Kelly said, “It was Labor Day, and lots of people drive that road either on motorcycles or in cars that time of day on a holiday. We hope someone will tell us what they saw along the road between 12 noon and 2:30, but it would be even better if they happened to have a dashboard camera recording the road as they drove.”

The Sheriff’s Department would greatly like to look at any video footage that may exist, he said. Citizens with that or any other information can contact Detective Wilhelm at (510) 875-5883 or remain anonymous by contacting the tip line at (510) 667-3622.

The Sheriff’s Department does have the victim’s name and autopsy results but is not releasing that information as it may help in their investigation. The information will be revealed once a suspect is in custody, Kelly said.
