Our Athlete of the Week is 10-year-old Evan Figueiredo of Castro Valley. He recently won two golf tournaments and finished fourth in the Summer 2021 U.S. Kids Boys 10- year-old tour despite only playing in two of seven tournaments. He won the first tournament he ever entered at Lincoln Park in San Francisco on July 18th and needed to win the next tournament he entered on Aug. 9 to finish in the Top Five for the season.

He then shot an even par 35 with 4 birdies on 9 holes to win at Moffett Field Golf Club in Mountain View.

Dad, Jordan Figueiredo, said his son’s interest and skill in golf blossomed suddenly during the COVID-19 lockdown.

I’d tried to interest him in golf for years, but he’d been all baseball. When COVID hit, he got really interested in golf, and he got really good at it right away.
— Jordan Figueiredo, Evan's dad

Jordan Figueiredo said, “I mentioned to him that there were tournaments for kids, and after his first one he decided he wanted to become a pro golfer as soon as he got old enough. He always wears his golfer shirt to school now, along with his golf cap, and tells everyone ‘I am a golfer.’”
