At their Chapel last Friday, October 29, the students at Redwood Christian Schools’ Elementary Campus brought food forward for Ruby’s Place, an organization that provides prevention and supportive services to the community and people impacted by domestic violence or human trafficking.

The chapel speaker, RCS Superintendent Emeritus Bruce D. Johnson, who was assisted by Dr. Lisa Francis’ fourth grade class, spoke on the topic “What Psalm 19:14 and Galatians 5:22-23 teaches us about compassion?”

Mr. Johnson selected six words from the verses to help the Transitional Kindergartners through fifth graders better understand what Compassion really is: Words, Meditation, Pleasing, Joy, Kindness and Gentleness encouraging the students to look for opportunities to respond to help those who are in need.

Parents were sent Chapel information and goals, sharing the need for food by Ruby’s Place so the entire family could be part of this compassionate act.

Students from Redwood Christian High School have been serving these families for years at the Rotary Club of Castro Valley’s Children’s Christmas Party.

The students (and their parents) responded by bringing more than 100 grocery bags and boxes full of food compared to twenty-four grocery bags last year and ten bags collected two years ago.

This year’s efforts were coordinated with the Rotary Club of Castro Valley, a partner in serving our community.

Principal Megan Sinisi knew what to expect, stating “Anytime we present a need to our students, they eagerly get to work to meet that need. From blanket brigades to bake sales, thank you notes to food drives, our elementary students have a heart to give. I was confident that the Redwood Christian Elementary community of families would be compassionate and respond enthusiastically when asked to be generous with the families of Ruby Place.  I am so proud of our students and their families for the great example they are to us of what compassion really looks like today.”
