Sports Hall of Fame Honors Volleyball, Wrestling Teams
The 1994 Castro Valley High Girls’ Volleyball Team and the 1958 CVHS Boys’ Wrestling Team have been elected to the Castro Valley Sports Hall of Fame, the first time ever that teams have been included in the Hall of Fame.
Since the Hall of Fame’s inception in 2010, 16 individuals have been inducted every two years (except for 2022 because of the COVID pandemic). This year, the Castro Valley Sports Foundation, which operates the Hall of Fame, decided to honor a male and female team in addition to 14 individuals. The 14 individual inductees will be announced in next week’s Forum.
The Hall of Fame Class of 2024 induction ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 21, 2024, at the Redwood Canyon Golf Course. Ticket information will be forthcoming.
The 1994 Girls’ Volleyball Team, coached by Eric Boice, finished its season with a 28-4 record and won the North Coast Section Division 2 championship by defeating Ukiah in the finals. The 1958 Boys’ Wrestling Team, coached by Vaughn Hitchcock, won the first ever North Coast Section team title in just the second year of Castro Valley High’s existence.
The teams and individuals named to the Hall of Fame were nominated by the public and elected by a nine-person committee appointed by the Castro Valley Sports Foundation. The CVSF is a non-profit organization that supports and promotes youth athletics in the community.
Plaques recognizing previous inductees are on display at the Ice Creamery on Castro Valley Blvd.
A series of articles on each of the new inductees will begin running in the Forum in December.
