Arts Education of Our Youth
Last week I had the privilege of attending a dress rehearsal at the Castro Valley Holy Cross Episcopal Church for the Castro Valley High School Madrigals on their way to perform at California All-State Music Education Conference (CASMEC). They were joined by the elite choirs from Chabot College and San Jose State. To be in the midst of these young people who have worked so hard to produce this beautiful music was both thrilling and inspiring. The person sitting next to me exclaimed, “We could have easily paid a hundred dollars for these tickets and felt like we got our money’s worth!” It was an incredible evening.
Each year the state board selects ensembles of distinction that exemplify outstanding artistry and technique. High school Director Laryssa Sadoway proudly shared, “To be chosen is a huge honor. We have been prepping for our performance since the first week of school.” Besides the CASMEC performance, the Castro Valley students were invited to sing at the State Capitol and take a tour with our state Senator.
Thank you Castro Valley for continuing to invest in the arts education of our young people. They continue to make us proud!
