District 4 Supervisor Race
I thoroughly appreciated the candidate forum featuring the Alameda County District 4 Supervisor race. Thank you to all the sponsors and Castro Valley Forum Managing Editor, Michael Singer, for his even-handed event moderation.
I’m an admitted partisan and have supported Jennifer Esteen since she entered the race. Nate Miley in my opinion is a political hack who caters to whoever will give his campaign money. In an earlier candidate forum, Miley was asked if there were corporate interests from which he would not accept campaign contributions. He could only name “Big Pharma”. Well, that’s easy! The County has no jurisdiction over the drug industry. He has though accepted campaign gifts from the California Apartment Association totaling at least $29,000.
Miley knows which side his bread is buttered on. Last year he cowardly abstained, thus killing tenant protections for the unincorporated areas that had passed a first reading earlier with the votes of now-deceased Supervisors Wilma Chan, and Richard Valle. Among other protections was a “Just Cause Eviction” provision, which would have prevented landlords from evicting tenants after making a complaint of illegal housing conditions.
The California Apartment Association is the nation’s largest statewide organization representing the rental housing industry.
