Why So Many Lights?

Would someone please tell me why the stadium lights and the parking lot lights are on at the high school when there is no event/function? I’ve been taught to conserve energy irregardless what it is. I know it my taxpayer’s dollars funding this expense and I’m disgusted with it. There is no logical explanation. I don’t care if they are LED’s, it’s a waste and it’s expensive to replace.

I understand to light the parking lot when the Performing Arts Center has a need, but otherwise, the lights are on and nobody’s home. Even that building is lit up like a Christmas tree. Why?
